Propaganda: The “Thirsty” Black Woman

Is there a difference between Basketball Wives, Bad Girls Club, The “Real Housewives” franchise? Remember “I Love New York” “For Love or Money” and the infamous show that really got it crunk, “Flavor of Love”?

These shows are supposedly a stepping stone into stardom and fame. A scummy step up from being just a video girl if you ask some. How far will  ladies go to attain attention that is so fleeting? Looking pretty to take a picture and shoot a video is one thing, but the girl fights, cursing, debauchery, and making complete fools of themselves hardly seems above and beyond “thirsty”.

There is a current upheaval over the images and portrayal of black women in the  NY Times best-selling book and Oscar buzzworthy movie “The Help”. They say its racist and set black women back. Taking a glimpse at how we used to be treated is realistic to see how far we’ve allegedly come since those days. We’re only one or two generations away from the Civil Rights Era. Which would you rather see: Women breaking their backs to stand up for something or laying on their back to gain fame?
